The following information is designed to answer any questions you may have about our services, the policies and procedures of our practice, and to alleviate any dental anxiety you may have.
We also want to take the opportunity to introduce our friendly and supportive staff.
FAMILY & GENERAL DENTISTRY:
We provide our services to children, with a focus on prevention and education to help support and form lifelong good dental habits.
These are used to replace areas of the tooth that have been removed due to teeth decay.
When many teeth are lost or extracted, a denture may have to be fitted to maintain normal chewing, bite, speech and the appearance of the upper and lower jaws.
These are a valuable asset to the mouth when they are healthy and properly positioned. Often, however, problems develop that require their removal.
The aim of this treatment is to save a tooth that has been badly damaged due to disease, decay or injury. It is generally recommended that it be crowned afterward the procedure.
Thin, tooth-coloured porcelain (ceramic) shells carefully crafted to bond to and cover the front of unsightly teeth, to enhance the appearance of your smile.
The best way to protect and strengthen a tooth. A crown fits over the existing natural tooth and replaces the enamel part of the tooth above the gums.
These replace one or more missing teeth. An artificial tooth anchored in the gap between two teeth.
These are artificial tooth roots that are inserted into the jawbone to replace missing natural teeth. Implants and their attached crowns closely mimic the look and function of real teeth.
A variety of products and procedures to enhance the look and feel of your smile.
Nitrous oxide is a form of inhalation sedation used regularly in dentistry to reduce anxiety and tension during your dental visit. Nitrous Oxide only lasts for as long as you are inhaling it, and when it is stopped, you are back to your normal self again.
Use a mouthguard during any activity that could result in a blow to the face or mouth. A properly fitted mouthguard can help prevent broken teeth and injuries to the lips, tongue, face or jaw.
This is a modern dental approach designed around the principal aim of preservation of as much of the natural tooth structure as possible. We treat the underlying cause, as well as the problem.
Dr. Tom Pacza is the Principal Dentist of the Mount Nelson Family Dental practice
He graduated with Honours from the University of Western Australia in 2003. Tom's various life experiences and experiences within the field of dentistry have led him to understand that every patient’s dental needs and wants are different; but that a flexible, caring and engaging delivery of dental care, that encourages people to be their own best dentist ensures quality dentistry can be performed and maintained.
He enjoys all aspects of dentistry and enjoys seeing someone transition from being nervous and apprehensive to feeling more comfortable and relaxed while in the newly furbished surgery.
Prior to opening his new practice Tom worked in both the public and private sectors of the dental profession, sharing his time between Katherine in the Northern Territory and Tasmania’s north. He also works from time to time in India and Nepal doing volunteer dental work.
Tom also is a registered Dental Specialist and holds a Graduate Diploma in Forensic Odontology and has worked both overseas and within Australia on deployment for Disaster Victim Identification. He is a member of the Australian Dental Association and the Australian Society of Forensic Odontology.
When not at work he has many interests but is mostly busy with his family, growing vegetables and trying to not be shark bait when kite boarding or scuba diving.
We have a number of policies and procedures in place to help and assist your visit. For peace of mind or just a better understanding, please read them and if you have any questions, please let us know by phone or email.
Infection Control are the practices performed to eliminate or minimise risk of passing any bacteria or viruses from one patient to another. While there is currently no legislation regarding infection control in dental practices, there are recognised Australian and New Zealand Standards [AS/NZS 4815] and guidelines provided by the Australian Dental Association.
We are proud of the fact that at Mount Nelson Family Dental we exceed the minimum standards and guidelines set. We support the introduction of legislation and accreditation of Infection Control procedures in dental practices.
These are just a few of the things we do to ensure your safety:
- All instruments are coded after sterilisation which allows us to track the instruments used for your appointment
- Alcohol-based, anti-bacterial hand gels are used routinely along with hand washing
- Plastic, impermeable barriers are used to ensure no transfer of pathogens into difficult to clean places
- Regular continuing education to maintain up-to-date standards
- Single use instruments are used where possible
- Our staff all wear protective clothing including gloves, masks, glasses and gowns
All dental instruments must be sterilised after use, which kills all bacteria and viruses that may have been transferred from a patient to a dental instrument. All instruments after being thoroughly cleaned are placed in an autoclave to be sterilised. The autoclave puts the instruments under hot steam and pressure which kills all bacteria and viruses.
Office Practice Policy
We have worked hard to make sure your visit is as pleasant and as informative one which is matched with our office practices. To familiarise yourself with our office practices, payment policies, etc... please see below.
At Mount Nelson Family Dental we require payment on the day of treatment. We accept Cash, EFTPOS, Visa and MasterCard.
We also offer a HICAPS facility, which allows you to claim your treatment costs at the time of your visit if you are privately insured. However, the amount covered by any health insurance provider is an agreement between yourself and your health insurance provider solely.
Mount Nelson Family Dental chooses not to participate in preferred provider schemes. Other practices are only preferred because they are contracted, no other reason. We do not believe in contracted dentistry and strongly disagree with our patients being charged different fees depending on which health fund they choose.
Mount Nelson Family Dental will maintain its independence because we believe we have a professional obligation to provide the best possible standard of dental care available without any restrictions or influence on the decision making process. We believe in cultivating a quality service that incorporates advice and treatment that is predictable and long lasting for all our patients.
We appreciate that your time is valuable and so we make every endeavour to be on schedule. To help us stay on time, we ask you to arrive five minutes before your reserved appointment. Emergencies and unforeseen circumstances may occasionally cause a delay, for which we apologise and seek your understanding and patience.
Cancellation of Appointments:
If you are unable to keep your appointment, please notify us as soon as possible. Due to the high demand at our practice, a fee for missed appointments is charged, including those cancelled within 48 hours of your scheduled appointment.
At Mount Nelson Family Dental, patient privacy is taken very seriously. Not only do we adhere to strict confidentiality regulations, but we also provide an environment that offers privacy throughout your visit. You can be confident your consultations are handled with complete discretion, your details are stored securely and your information is not disclosed without your consent.
